Keats Day, November 12th

I have planned a 'Keats day' on Thursday November 12th. The idea is to visit Keats House in Hampstead (free to under 16s) in the morning and then go on to see the film 'Bright Star' about John Keats inspiration for his poetry at the Rio cinema in the afternoon. We can have a tour of the house, which is good.

http://www.keatshouse.cityoflondon.gov.uk

http://movies.nytimes.com/2009/09/16/movies/16bright.html (a review of the film from the New York Times)

So, provisionally the plan is:

(10.15: Train from Hackney Central to Hampstead Heath)

11.00: Meet at Keats House for visit, then a packed lunch on the Heath if its nice

2.30: Train to Dalston

3.15: Rio cinema, 'Bright Star"

It should be a lovely day, of interest to anyone interested in poetry and/or history, particularly for the teenagers. It will give lots of insight into the poems, useful for those studying them for pleasure, exams, or both!

Let me know if you'd like to join us, so I have a rough idea of numbers.

Kew Trip is cancelled :(

KEW GARDENS HAVE JUST CANCELED OUR TRIP THIS WEDNESDAY.

It appears they have recently changed their policy regarding free group visits and are now charging schools and groups a minimum of 75 pounds to visit the park. When we booked, they failed to pass this information on to us and despite a huge effort on Saran's part to convince them that we should still be able to visit (as they had accepted our booking and did not tell us at the time of these changes) they have refused us free entry.

So, sorry to all of you who enjoy these termly trips, Please, if you can, send an e-mail of complaint to Kew (A.Waite@kew.org) as we have been very unjustly treated in this instance,

thanks ,

xSaska

Kayak and canoeing for over-9s

A Canoe and Kayak programme has been set up for home educated children ages 9yrs and upwards. There will be 10 sesssions in all, every Wednesday from 12-2pm starting after the half term in June. The cost is £5 per child per session.

There will be a sheet for each session, so if you have a variety of coaches, they will all know exactly what is required on each session. The younger participants(under 14yrs) will have a log book and will get certificates most weeks (the paddle power scheme). The older ones will get a certificate after week 2 and be encouraged to keep a log and should achieve BCU1 star status on completion of week 10.

Family disco - Covent Garden Saturday 29th Nov

Dear All,

FAMILY DISCO THIS SATURDAY IN COVENT GARDEN

Saturday 29 November from 5pm till 9pm, at:

SEVEN DIALS CLUB (Near Chicago show on Earlham St.)
46 SHELTON ST, COVENT GARDEN
WC2

This is a new venture we are trying to set up with the new community centre, Seven Dials Club in Covent Garden. The venue is a new, big, comfortable hall perfect for HE activities with disco area and bar. It is bring your own wine at the moment and there is bottled beer and cider at the bar (fully functioning bar to open soon). The first one will be on 29 November and will run as a pilot. There will be no charge as it coincides with Christina's 9th birthday, so hope to see all our friends there! We really would appreciate your support as the new centre needs to be getting people through the doors in order to secure funding.

There will be DJ's and lights, a wide variety of music and we'd like to see adults joining in the dancing with children.

If anyone can help out by bringing food for the buffet and old strong curtains or fabric that children can play with on the dance floor, this would be great.

Please email me if you intend to come, or with any other questions,

Hope to see you there,

All best,

Victoria and Christina XX

Music for Xmas

Hi, I've been asked to be part of a music event for Xmas, first rehearsal on November 25th. I've got a pdf of a three part arrangement of Good King Wenceslas that looks quite playable. I've put the file here if anyone wants to have a look. It should stay on this site for a week or so.

http://www.sendspace.com/file/rg9kgo

It is 13 pages, so the basic full score is on page 1 then I think we just need pages 2, 6 and 10 for the individual parts for the instruments we (might) have available.

I can bring some percussion and recorders on the 25th, maybe if any one else has music stands you could bring them.

Soooo, is any one interested? Saska suggested that some children might like to act out the story, we can sing and play instruments ...

And maybe, if we enjoy doing this one, we could do another carol or so .. I'm off googling now.

This is also going out on emails, just to try and catch as many people as possible.
